Nice metaphor - the chatroom as pub. I'll wander through the tables with my drink (not tea I hasten to add) and eavesdrop on the conversations, might even start up some more of my own. I won't grumble. :-)

Susan is great, I'd have loved to have sampled her cooking. She does a fantastic job of doing all the mundane cook-and-bottlewasher duties, leaving the others to dream up the adventures. But her & John suffer a bit too much from "what will Mummy and Daddy say?" syndrome. This might be deliberate to contrast with Nancy's devil-may-care attitude, of course.

Leads me onto another thought - would Nancy have been different if Bob Blackett had lived to help bring her and Peggy up? When did BB die - I always think 1918 in a huge WW1 battle.
