More likely he would get the complaint that he was trying to control something now out in the public domain. Sensibly, Cape recognised that. People do have the right to read any book or books in any sequence they prefer - writer notwithstanding.
I absolutely infuriate my husband by reading the first chapter then the last two pages of a new book before settling down to read it in the 'normal' fashion. Also, being a speed reader, I normally finish off a medium sized book in one reading of an hour or so. Mind you - my first reading of Lord of the Rings took 14 hours! Ah, the days of teenagerhood when you have 14 hours to yourself.
