I expect that's the kind of logic in operation but the results can be baffling to outsiders. As far as being faithful to the original filmmakers are in a 'win win' situation. Fans will go and see it anyway, if only to see how their favorite has been butchered, novices are none the wiser.
As for 'mind the gap' lets just put it down to uncontrolled Rogeristic tendencies, although the phrase was repeated in something I read or heard recently.
