As far as the later TV versions of Coot Club and The Big Six go (lumped together on one tape inexplicably called "Swallows and Amazons For Ever,")
They were called "Swallows and Amazons For Ever" because there was a vague plan to go on and film the remaining books, and this was to be the overall title of the series. However, it never came to fruition. Presumably they started with the two Broads books because it simplified the child-casting logistics, as the D's are the only characters in common with the other books.
