I must say I prefer to enter the pub via the front door then sit in sequentially on the various new discussions which have started since my last visit. Then I'll drop in on the older groupings I chatted with, listened in on, on previous visits until I'm caught up. Only then will I resort to "climbing in the window" to see what I might have missed (and used that way the analogy crumbles!). I'd find it totally maddening to try to make sense of bits and pieces of conversation gleaned from "Tartalk", AKA the Back Door (where you're stuck in the pub kitchen and only hear bits and pieces of the chatter as an order comes through?).

Seeing a thread start up "But have you considered . . ." drives me mad as it provides me absolutely zero way of directly connecting it to a particular thread (or, as in some longer ones, sub-thread). Keeping to a threaded order, even with the inevitable drift, is infinitely easier to follow than pogo-sticking through the pub catching a phrase here and there. Please, try it!
