Can Ed confirm that Cook is Mrs Braithwaite? I can't find the reference.

It was Miss Powell at Pin Mill.

The Great Aunt was Miss Turner - and a generation too old to have had a lover killed in the Great War - perhaps the Boer War?

But Mrs Tyson, Mrs Barrable, Mrs McGinty and Cook must have been widows. We see all of them for too long and know too much about their life styles for husbands to be temporarily absent, and divorce was rare in those days - from what we know of each of them we can be sure that they would have been shocked at the very idea.
