There are references, somewhere in one of the many books about AR's writing of the series, to his desire to keep the Lakeland sites secret--something he wrote on a card to someyoung boy? It's my belief that Coniston & Windermere were more special to him, and he didn't want his readers to know where they really were. He did grow up visting yearly, and I know from experience how attached you can get to a beautiful place you see only once each year. In fact, I expect he would have hated knowing how many of us travel to Coniston & surrounding areas in search of the "real" locations! Perhaps he didn't have those same strong feelings about the Broads--not part of his boyhood in the same way.
