There's a whole new sport that does this - is it called something like Geo-caching? - where people hide a box, post the co-ordinates on a website, and others seek out the box. The finders sign their names on a list in the box, and sometimes add a little trinket to the collection in there.
Nowadays the searching is done using those snazzy handheld GPS devices (cheating really!).
