Landfall, I think. Definitely a similar situation, though she was a barmaid not a colonial. Mona was herself concerned that Jerry's marrying a barmaid would hurt his career, especially with the submarine episode also on his record.

There's also the forward reference in Pastoral to Gervase getting used to being called "Mrs. Nightingale" by pilots who had no idea where the name arose.

ISTR one of the services had an (unwritten?) rule regarding marriages:
Lieutenents never
Commanders/Majors sometimes
Captains/Colonels always
