Susan is clearly a leader in Dorothea's view, as I read the Picts and
the Martyrs, and also Winter Holiday. Dorothea wants to be as
successful a boatkeeper and housekeeper as Susan. This is shown when
Dorothea is on her own in the "Fram" and at the Dogs Home. Nancy leads
by organizing adventures, but it is Susan that Dorothea wants to emulate.

All of the stories that include Dick and Dorothea separate the children
into clear groups by age. Dick, Dorothea, Titty and Roger are peers,
the others are older.
