I imagine this could easily have been covered in previous posts, but could anyone here tell me how the Goblin's mainsail was attached to the mast above the spreaders? In the picture in WDMTGTS, of John at the crosstrees, it appears she has both hoops --which John climbed-- below the spreaders and, above the spreaders, lugs in/on a sail track. This seems to me to be a technical error, deemed acceptable in that AR had to get John to the crosstrees and mast hoops do make a good ladder, but for all I know, maybe a hoops/recessed sail track combination is an accepted practice in England.

Enlightment, anyone?

Alex
