Similar in length to the garments I currently favour for climbing. Admittedly mine have instant scruffiness produced by the wearer. I think they were called 'long-reach shorts. I've always found trousers that finish short of the ankle rather convenient in boats, at least the small ones I'm most familiar with.
I went climbing straight from work recently and got partially changed for the journey, changing my work trousers for the 'plus twos'but retaining my jacket (what I'd call a proper jacket with collar, lapels buttons etc) and sun hat. One of my companions accused (I think that must be the correct word) of looking like that man out of Arthur Ransome. I know I should be flattered but although I'm just as bald as Capt F or AR himself, I like to think that I am nowhere near as stout.Oh well, sic transit vanitas etc
(I await correction from the crack ML section of TPS)
