I was about to say the very same thing!

I'm just reading it to our four year old; his 11 year old brother is tending to listen as well. It is very well constructed; a very sound piece of journeyman novel writing. We've just got to the moment where Peter Duck "washes the anchor", the suspense, as to why Black Jake ("Because of his heart" said Peter Duck) is so interested and so unpleasant has been building since the first page.
