IMHO it is written largely by and for those who feel children's reading should be more "realistic" (when was it ever?) by Dave Thewlis

Very true, Dave. As a child I wanted to read about things I didn't experience in my day-to-day life. The same applies to my adult reading too. I've just finished "Snobs" by Julian Fellowes - a fantastic story about the modern English upper classes - a world which is (and always will be) completely unknown to me!
