If you don't wish to see people stating views in public - don't come into a public arena stating your views.

Oh Ian - that's a bit mean - I have been on Tarboard for over 8 years - I know the ropes. But the right to state views must surely be balanced with just a little bit of consideration? I feel we are approaching the 'no more on this please' time, so I won't flog this into the ground, except to say that a mistake often made is to assume that a 'myth' must always be totally untrue. Ancient folk-myths have a validity of their own, and can contain some elemental 'truths'. The question of who we are and why we are is incredibly complex, and, IMHO, we should approach this topic with a large degree of humility, like Dick looking at the constellations in Winter Holiday.

Just one final thing: am I the only person with these views? If I am, then obviously I am on the wrong board. I would welcome views - by private email, by all means.
