Actually, there are other "PC" issues here besides the language. The story is set at the time of China's greatest weakness, and whilst the heroine is clearly modelled on Soong Ching-Ling, and behaves admirably throughout, it is not an era that many Chinese people care to be reminded of. Note the attitude to the RN, for example.
