Welcome aboard Nick, your first post worked fine and definitely rings a bell with me, but I can't remember the name of the book or author and I am away from my references. But I think the book was prior to Ransome and involved three? boys on the Broads in a small boat doing Ransomeish things. Somehow the name Swan comes to mind.
