I have a feeling that there were many "private" little railroads on private
property all over the world.

The Furzebrook Railway was a private narrow gauge railway that ran on
the edges of Poole Harbour until the mid 50's. Although there's no direct
AR link, Secundus is a delightfully quaint engine and the Poole Harbour
area did feature heavily in some earlier TarBoard discussions. One of the
other lines in the area, Fayles Tramway, lives on as the disused railway
in one of Endid Blyton's Famous Five adventures.
