Had an interesting experience of "lurkers" last year. I belong to the Melbourne PC User Group which has a few closed newsgroups for members only. There are a few MelbPC members who post to the "general" newsgroup regularly, and one of these arranged a picnic for members through the newsgroup. At the picnic a very quiet couple turned up and introduced themselves but did not enter the general conversation other than to answer a few direct questions from their immediate neighbours in the group. As far as anyone knew, they had NEVER posted anything to the newsgroup. They left early, as they seemed to be unable to contribute anything. Sad really...
