A friend of mine, Dave Bowman, unemployed in Dundee in the '30s, told me he spend a great amount of time reading in the library .... and ended up president of the National Union of Railwaymen.
And any TARS reading that will be aware that our President, Norman Willis, former General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress, got his love of AR from his local libary. He told us he was introduced to it by a school friend, the son of the local policeman, who persuaded him the library was available to boys like him as well as the 'upper classes'.
