The British children's author Malolm Saville was influenced by AR.
His books featured a group of children who had adventures in
Shropshire and elsewhere. He flourished in the 1940s(?), 50s and
60s. I read two or three of his books in my early teens in the
early 60s and could see parallels with AR but found MS less addictive.

He went out of fashion for a while, but according to a Radio 4
programme about 3 years ago, interest in him was growing again
and his books were being reprinted. An Alta Vista search reveals a
Malcolm Saville Society with a website

(I must learn how to put an active link in a message).

My very first message to Tarboard made me look an idiot because
it included a howler which I suspect may have been caused by
confusion with something in an MS book, though I haven't verified
that this is its origin. (I suggested that in one of AR's books
the D's were thought of as twins - I thought I remembered a phrase
"Dorothea, the older by an hour.")
