be alleviated ,or cured leaving him with a more active life.

Would it have meant more stories or less.

AR was chronically short-sited. This was not diagnosed at his Windermere
school where the headmaster was very keen on boxing. Taking young AR's
refusal to parry the blows as cowardice (AR simply could not see them.)
he kept on putting AR into the ring. It is not inconceivable that AR suffered
some brain damage as a result. Maybe the long gestation period of his books
is evidence that this really occured.

These days, AR's short-sightedness would have been picked up much earlier.
