I suppose that being aware of these factors is, for me at least, part of the disadvantage of reading AR as an adult.

As far as I can recall I was aware of some of these factors even when reading the books as a child. As I said here once before (to be shot down) I always felt uncomfortable when Nancy tells off Sammy the policeman in S&A chapter 24. But this and other examples never did much to limit my enjoyment of the series as a whole.
