Usually some boarding schools, including the one I attended, the last day of term was on a Thursday finishing before lunch. This allowed pupils to make a good start for travelling home. In earlier July , one might be taking O or A level external examinations. by Owen Roberts

Good idea to finish on a Thursday. I think exam times have always been more or less the same, although O and A levels weren't introduced until 1951, replacing the School Certificate and Higher School Certificate. The S & A's discuss School Certificates with Daisy in SW when having tea with the Lapwing missionaries.
