In the last chapter (31) of SA, Mother says “ .... Their father seems to think they are not duffers, but sometimes I’m not so sure”.
“Mother” said John, and mother laughed.
And in the last chapter (27) of WD too, it is Mother and Daddy. Titty & Daddy both use “Mother”, and Mother says she got a telegram from “Daddy” in Berlin. The narrative uses both “Mother” and “Mrs Walker”; Jim says “Mrs Walker”, while Daddy says “Mary”. .
In WH when the Doctor say not to kiss Nancy, Molly Blackett says ironically of Nancy & Peggy “horrid little wretches” and makes a face at Peggy when she looks surprised.
Ironically, as when CF says to John in SD “better let me tell her, and then she’ll begin knowing that she has’nt had the luck to lose any of you”. Of course John would have started off by saying that Swallow had been sunk.
