Well, there's the time that I fell over a cliff (luckily a smallish one) while my siblings and I were playing tag while camping somewhere around Yosemite. I'm not sure we ever told our parents about that one.

On my childhood camping trips, I was required to wear a whistle to blow when (not if) I got lost. I rarely blew it since in my view, I wasn't lost- I just wasn't with the group.

On AR's characters- I don't believe that Nancy and Peggy had the freedom that the Swallows do until they got together. My reading of SA makes me think that they were relegated to day trips or required to be with Captain Flint. Susan makes the Amazon's adventures possible.
