Think of a circle - any circle.
Think of a square that fits inside the circle so the four corners of the square just touch the perimeter of the circle. There is only one unique circle for each such square.

The area of the circle is A = pi*r*r.

Now the area of the square is AS=h*h where h is side length of the square.

I would hope if you draw the little sketch that you can see that under all circumstances A has got to be greater than AS. We cal this self evidence in mathematics, but it can be proven.

Are you with me so far? If not whaich part do you not understand - I have all the itme in the world, the students I teach who have University Level calculus coul dnot do this either.
