It starts in a way that would have stopped young Dot dead in her tracks before Page Three...Carruthers complaining that his Club is closed for the summer staff break and he has to use another, that he cannot get away to a house party...all in the tradition of, say, The Prisoner of Zenda but unintelligible to a girl in the 1930's.
