Last August we were anchored off Flint Island and Alex C-B and Josh Masters decided to sail round Swallow Island in Minn, our 9ft clinker lugsail dinghy. Owing to an inferior repair by the undersigned, the lower rudder pintle broke (cf "Wizard"!) between Bridget Island and the Wade, so they abandoned and decided to row back down Secret Water.

The ebb having set in, they were carried out to sea, but correctly pulled manfully on the oars and landed on the seawardmost point of Flint Island. This parent, having spotted them with binoculars from the rigging pursued in the inflatable dinghy with outboard but did not intervene until they were ashore i.e. they were NOT rescued but sorted themselves out - they did need a tow back in against the ebb, though.

First words were, "You have gone beyond the "No Sailing Beyond This Line" Line!"

It did strike me that from the perspective of a small dinghy Dovercourt Bay can seem pretty big.
