Good heavens, Jock, don't tell me that you have become a late convert to the 'AR Non-Literal Approach'

I'm not sure that I have. It's a useful shorthand to be able to write, "The surveyors would not have seen" instead of "AR, in researching SW, would not have seen and that is why he does not write that the surveyors would have seen". It's only a convention like writing "SA" instead of "Swallows and Amazons". However, in discussing Mike's map-making I didn't want the discussion to branch off down the "They didn't see them, because it's fiction" line. So I deliberately used language which I hoped would carry the non-literalists with me so that we could focus on Mike's splendid cartography.
