By the word 'today' in does the moral framework shown in Ransome's work have any relevance today? I meant: generally these days, in society in general, in the way we behave nationally and internationally, the way we educate children etc etc. The question was never intended to apply to one company document belonging to a literary society. I really meant something like, e.g. - does the very strict behavioural regime of the four Swallows have any resonance today? Could one bring up children in such a regime today, and would that necessarily be a Good Thing?

I didn't necessarily expect a response to this theme, although it was kind of Laurence to do so. It is enough merely to share some thoughts I frequently have, with others on TarBoard. Others may either read them or ignore them, if they wish, or maybe carry the debate a bit further. This is what I understand by 'Arthur Ransome Discussion Forum'. (It goes without saying that there is also a place for the many entertaining discussions about the little details found in Ransome, of the type Ed reminds us of . . .:-) ) All of the above is a personal point of view only.
