Hmm, yes, although our loyalty to AR must not blind us to the occasional imperfection, nor make us desperate to explain it away. If the second 'galumph' was deliberate, one would expect a writer of AR's ability to foresee that readers might regard it as a mistaken repetition and therefore to amend the wording to avoid any such suspicion, e.g. to say 'John continued to galumph half-heartedly' or better still (IMHO) 'John galumphed even more half-heartedly', or something on these lines. I'm afraid I still regard it as an error. Even Homer nods.
