Just to confuse things a little. The real Mavis also came from the coast and was bought by Earnest Altounyan at the same time as AR bought the real Swallow (II). Swallow (II)'s keel, like that of her fictional counterpart, though deeper than Mavis's was not all that deep, while centreboards were also used in some Morecombe Bay workboats.
