Hi Prue,

Yes, I have read Gone Away Lake, and have copies of both books. I love them! Unlike Ransome though, the way the two main characters occasionally act toward each other and some of the slang makes them a little dated, but it doesn't matter since that only occasionally comes up. I finally got old hard covers of them on eBay, and there used to be paperback versions. I highly recommend them to anyone.

I am also interested in the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, and it turns out that Elizabeth Enright is his granddaughter! Her early book, "Thimble Summer" was based on her memories of the South Central Wisconsin countryside while staying at Taliesin when she was a young girl.

Another favorite series of stories from that era is by Elinor Lyon - "The House in Hiding", and other stories with Ian and Sovra, as well as her other imaginative tales like "Wishing Water Gate". They are finally being reprinted in the UK, but are rather expensive. I have most of her books as library discards that I got on eBay, but the later ones with the children of the first children in the stories, are very rare and expensive, so I have yet to read them.

As Ed would say, the things one learns when pursing all things Ransome!
