In yesterday's (11.3.99) Daily Telegraph there appeared an obituary of Capt. Bernard MacIntyre who served on destroyers in the last War and was awarded the DSC. In his retirement, the obituary states, he 'gave his family some memorable sailing adventures in his various boats - everything from re-enacting Arthur Ransome's 'Swallows and Amazons' stories to chasing the midnight sun in Scandinavia'.
Surely the true 'Ransome spirit' for the Millenium or any time.
