And several years ago they built a Middle School in Wichita, Kansas (and I presume many other places) with out windows. Vandelism rates to the school skyrocketed. These places all look like prisons. What's next, neck braces so they all have to look straight ahead? We all, even at this age, need a place to disconnect from the task at hand, stare out the window, run around and see that the world out there is still actually there - recharge! This is why stories like Mr. Ransome's are so important, they give the mind different directions and experiences.

"All work and no play makes Jack a VERY dull - and dangerous - boy."

In first semester first grade (this was just at the beginning of WWII in Los Angeles, Calif.) we had a wonderful young lady who made school fun and exciting - second semester we moved to another room and teacher who would have loved to have eliminated the windows and playgrounds - she had the blinds pulled most of the time. Once, when she was exasperated, she asked "who wants to go back to Mrs. Huff's room?" I raised my hand - I had had enough of this. Of course, I didn't go back but had to suffer through it like the rest.

Eric Abraham - In Kansas with gorgeous through the window views!
