Just before Jock's competition gets the green flag, I think I must comment on the preface. The 'St Tarboard's' spoof was a joke at the time, intended to be relevant then, but in no way symbolic of TarBoard in general. Jokes are risky on TarBoard, as I have found out to my cost. I would like to formally disown the 'school' metaphor now - it is best forgotten.
The 'TarBoard Arms' idea is not new. I prefer it because it sums up the (on the whole) agreeable and lively TarBoard forum, where everyone can choose who to 'drink with', ie share a thread with and discuss AR. It is why I still frequent it, even though I am uncomfortably aware of the landlord's constant stern gaze in my direction. (I try to sit with my back to the bar.)
I look forward to the announcement of the result when Jock's competition hits the buffers on Monday.
