As I recall, no policeman was safe in Wodehouse. If Bertie Wooster wasn't knocking off helmets, Uncle Fred was organizing the pushing of them into duck ponds.

There's also a Kipling story where a policeman running a speed trap is taken up and driven across country. He is finally deposited in a wildlife enclosure.

Clearly, those bohemian days of young writerhood led to plenty of police action- building up years of resentment on the part of the suffering writer.
