Tam O'Shanter by Rabbie Burns.

http://www.robertburns.plus.com/tamoshanter.htm

Tam spies some whitches having a party and is struck by one wearing a short shift or, in his vernacular, 'cutty sark'. Getting carried away with the goings on, he shouts out 'Go it Cutty Sark' and is then chased across the moors by the witch. To spoil the ending for you, he makes it across a stream, which the witch cannot cross, just as she is about to catch him. She just manages to grab the pony's tail as he escapes and is left clutching this as he rides away. This is the figurehead of the clipper compleat with dangling tail.

due to the language the long poem is not easy to read!

Andy Clayton.
