I rather agree with Mike that the actor playing Captain Flint looked like how I pictured Uncle Jim. On the other hand, while the actress portraying mother admirably filled the bill, the children--in my opinion--were horribly miscast. John was a dolt; Roger just silly; Susan much more attractive than I imagined (and Peggy, too). Only those playing Titty and Nancy approached my mental images of the characters.
One other thing about the film: I have always had a difficult time understanding some of the characters. Thus, it was a pleasant surprise to me when I spent three days in Coniston six weeks ago to find there was no "language barrier" for this midwestern USA person!
And Coniston and the area does say "Come back."
