I was sad to hear yesterday of the death of that other notorious 'George' - George Melly, the jazz singer. This is not off-topic, because George Melly was related to the Smith (sometimes called 'Rawdon Smith') sisters, Georgina and Pauline, thought by some to be the models for the Amazons. Thus it was that that scandalous bon-viveur was related to Nancy and Peggy. It's a funny old world.
