Re the GA’s visit to meet Mrs Walker, John realises that his mother didn’t like the GA, but the Walker family may have been acceptable to the GA, making the visit a sort of success. We don’t know.
I would cite the GA's obsession that the Amazons were secretly meeting with the Swallows in PM as evidence to the contrary. (The GA clings on to this theory in spite of the fact that this is the one holiday when the Amazons do attend their meals on time!) The other piece of evidence is the warmth of the GA's letter to Mrs Blackett recommending the D's as suitable friends, clearly intending to recommend them as an alternative to the Swallows.
