ISTR (SD? WH?) Mrs. Dixon addressing Roger as "Master Roger". One possibility is that there's an implicit "cut off age" for using "Master" while "Miss", being used to indicate marital state as much as youth, doesn't have one and so may be used later in life. I certainly don't recall "Master" being used for boys much over 8-9, while "Miss" has tended to be used for older girls as well.
