My husband David works around the corner from (US) Government Printing
Office's Bookstore. He was browsing there during lunch one day last
week when he opened a volume of documents released from the former
Soviet Union. He opened the book RANDOMLY and there on the page was
a reference to E.(what was her last name? memory fails me!), wife of
Arthur Ransome. Apparently, she smuggled jewels out of Russia to aid
the Communist Party, USA! There wasn't much more information than
that, and if anyone wants the exact citation, I'll ask David to get
it.
