All Commander Walker's luggage except a small travelling bag would surely have been expressed.

In those civilised days you didn't have to personally look after your luggage - that would have been taken care of by the railway and shipping companies under customs seal, and it would not necessarily have been on the same ship from Flushing. All that Commander Walker would have had to do was collect it when it arrived at the British Customs at Harwich.

And it was more likely to arrive safely than airline baggage today.

Just as in the same way Nancy went to see if Timothy had arrived at the Railway Parcels Office.
