As I may have said before, I don't think AR had much knowledge of, or interest in, matters naval.
I wonder why he chose to write the father of his fictional Swallows as a British naval officer. It seems quite a contrast with Ernest Altounyan. Do you think it was a joke, or the first stage in separating AR's Swallows from the 'real-life' Susie, Titty etc?
