Mrs Tyson is "not quite naice and no lady" - see PP for proof of this passim

Joy, I don't understand why you say that. Mrs Tyson has always struck me as a perfectly nice widow running a hill farm with her son. She behaves the way she does in PP because she doesn't understand what the children are up to, and there is no reason, surely, why she should. Her intervention when the 'gold' is being smelted is very understandable - she would know what would happen if the fellside caught fire. And she is grateful for the pigeon message at the end. Why is she 'no lady'?
