I think Random House/Cape's only reprint the hardbacks on a care/maintenance basis. ISTR reading somewhere that a modern AR hardback reprint run would be about 1000 copies. Hardly enough to be worth investing in replacing the picture blocks as they wear.
My 2003 WD has the NOORDHINDER almost completely shaded out, AR style.

Prewar books (i.e.the series down to SW) can be obtained with better quality paper and, to me, are worth obtaining.
However if we fail to buy new from Capes, I suspect the hardback will go out of print.
I have always bought new hardbacks for my grandson.
