Can you imagine the books all through the eyes of Titty, and Dorothea as next most imaginative, when Titty isn't there? The potential for made-up characters to appear and disappear as needed boggles the mind! Of course, if written in Nancy's eyes, or even John's, the whole collection might be only a few hundred pages: "Saw island. Received permission from Daddy to camp there. Set sail. Landed & set up camp. Found signs of prior usage...." Thanks goodness for AR's Titty-like imaginative style combined with plenty of common sense & knowledge!
