Ahoy!
We are Satoshi "Observatory" and Mikako "Minnow" Tarashima, members of
Sea Shanty Club of ARC.
We sang wedding version of "Spanish Ladies" at the party for Arata and
Eriko on March 22.

We have no special lyrics for wedding version. we sang the chorus part
("We'll rant and we'll roar¥¥¥") and the third verse ("The first land we
made¥¥¥") at the party. We have sung several times like this for the
marriages of ARC members.

Off course, we are very pleased to sing Shanties together in feasts like
that held on the houseboat of Captain Flint , but in case of wedding parties,
we cannot hang our mothers or say farewell to bonny young girl to keep
peace with natives. Even in "Spanish Ladies", the British sailors say
farewell to Spanish Ladies. In Japanese custom, it is supposed to be evil
to SAY words like "farewell" or "leave her" or "never see you" in the wedding
party because they are believed to make bad effects against the marriage.

So, we carefully selected the delightful and happy verse from "Spanish Ladies"
and explained to the native people that the content of the verse is that sailors'
return to their home with fair wind.

Sea Shanty Club of ARC: As little chances are given to hear the shanties appeared
in Ransome Saga in Japan, we have looked for the melodies and lyrics of which
only titles seen. With help of many resources including "Shanty for TARS", we
have found many.
We have translated some of them into Japanese and now singing in our events.
